Life drawing (1hr)  Pen, Brush and Black Ink on A2 Paper.

I almost forgot about the satisfying ache in your arm that comes after holding it up during a life drawing session.  Of course before, or even during this phase, comes the mental ache that is caused from concentrating very, very hard on how to deal with the drawing in front of you (and feeling like you really can’t).  It’s a horrible feeling, but one that does spur me on.  It’s a challenge you see, and being such a determind kind of gal I feel like I really ought to give it a good go.  I’ve been taking this opportunity to try and free up my drawing style, allow myself the time to just enjoy the flow of the lines and not get too bogged down by the fine details.  It’s quite liberating actually!  I must say it’s difficult to break away from old habits, however it’s also extremely rewarding when you see glimmers of what you are trying to achieve on the drawing’s surface.

I’ve been attending untutored life drawing classes lately which has been really enjoyable, it’s great to flex those drawing muscles again.  Expect to see more work from these sessions in the near future!

Even though this was a quick sketch, I do rather like the feeling of this piece.  I feel as if the majority of the marks on the paper look like they are worthy of being there.

One of my favourite drawings that I did in this Lifedrawing session with Marianne as model.  I particularly enjoyed trying to simplify the line and naturally let the varying strengths of it flow out.  I love the contrast between the harder and softer line and I think I will try to emulate this technique again in the future.

Hello, it has been a while hasn’t it?  I thought it was about time I shared what I have been up to!  I hope you enjoy looking at the new work and you know, you are always welcome to give me feedback.  It’s always great to hear from you!  I’m planning to include more sketches and drawings into the site, also i’ll include some commissions i’ve been doing on request.  Here to start off the new update is ‘Molting’, I have always loved using the decorative nature of plants in my work and in this piece the leaves are literally beginning to envelop the girl.  I wanted the figure in the piece to show her vulnerability, here she seems to be self-comforting as she gazes out, perhaps she will let go of her fear and gain strength from the leaves’ protection?
